Panasonic R193 Electronic

My daughter purchased a Panasonic R193 Electronic typewriter. The correction ribbon needed changing , but try as I might I could not get it to load. I then saw that there was a build up of crystalised gunk in the left pin causing the problem. I needed to remove this and decided to remove the complete housing (pic 2)  to make the task easier.
On clearing the gunk I tried to refit the housing. I thought I had it sussed,  but when I tried to type, something was obviously wrong because 2 parts came away. I am not sure where they go now , I think the plastic bit (pic 3)  sits on the plastic bit seen  in pic 1, but as for the spring  (pic 3) I don't know. Annoyingly I can now see why my attempt to fit the housing failed but unitl I get hese two rogue parts back in place I cannot try again.
Can anybody please help?

Re: Panasonic R193 Electronic

Hi,

Did you figure this out?

I looked on eBay to see if anybody had taken a photo of the insides of this model so I could determine where it might go, also I looked on google images but there really isn't anything and I suspect it goes back underneath the bit you would see from above anyway.

I don't know how hands on you are, but I assume you've tried gingerly placing the spring anywhere where it looks obvious it might go bearing it mind its a compression spring so it needs something to press down either side of it, not pull it.  The shape of that plastic part has to match up with a part on the carriage as its pretty weird shape wise. So made need you to fiddle a bit.

I have a Brother machine with a broken paper feed cog which I haven't bothered fixing, so I took the cover off my carriage and a spring like yours fell out but with a long and short piece that required tucking in under the flap of the piece that closes over the mechanics inside.  I wonder if your spring is just a piece to keep the door down over the mechanics, maybe look for a short plastic stump and an indentation for the spring to go.

The white piece on mine that closely resembles yours, baring in mind yours is upside down is the right hand larger black cog on the right, perhaps it slips over that?

I hope you figure this out.

Good luck

Richard

Re: Panasonic R193 Electronic

No I'm afraid not.

I am completely flummoxed as to where these bits go.

Very annoying, tried to help out and ended up breaking the thing.

It's gonna have to be binned as I know of nobody local to me who can take a look.

Thanks for your imput but I cannot find anywhere for the spring to go.

Regards

Re: Panasonic R193 Electronic

Darren, perhaps you should try to sell or give it away as a parts machine rather than "binning" it.

The pronoun has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.

Re: Panasonic R193 Electronic

Yes, someone might pay a few pounds for it to harvest the parts.

I stripped a Silver Seiko that had had it and got a bunch of springs, and screws off it which I've used many times over to substitute said parts on other machines.

Sorry it didn't work out.  I'm in the same boat with my Remington 5.  Especially tough when you've tried to help someone else.
