Silver reed 2600cr not moving along

Great forum. Lots of useful info.

Discovered my mother's old Silver Reed 2600cr electric typewriter.

When a key is pressed, the carriage doesn't move along. Ditto with pressing space.

However pressing backspace DOES do what it should.

Return however does NOT go back to the left but instead feeds the paper through.

C as n anyone (maybe with a crystal ball) suggest something i can do at homev(oil? Grease?) or does ir sound like a specialist is needed?

Unfortunately you will almost certainly find that the rubber drive belt inside the machine has stretched and lost its tension with age.  It will be slipping, which is why there is not enough strength in the carriage return function to both return the carriage and operate the linespace at the same time.  Drive belts have been unobtainable since the early 1990's (your machine almost certainly dates from the mid-1980's) so there isn't a lot you can do with it.
