Smith Corona Galaxie 12 problems

Hi! So I just got my first typewriter, It's a smith corona galaxie 12 and so far i've noticed 2 problems:
1-When I press the lever to go to the beginning of the paper, it doesn't return and go to the next line
2-The ribbon, doesn't move when when I type, so It creates a big hole in the ribbon
can anyone help?

Re: Smith Corona Galaxie 12 problems

Does the carriage return lever fail to advance the paper in all settings of the line spacing lever? (top left of the carriage, may be labelled with numbers, dots, or unmarked).

Are the ribbon spools rotating with the ribbon advance mechanism? The easiest way to check, other than typing while watching the ribbon, is to spin the spool manually and listen for the ratcheting.

Does it do this in both directions? (manually reverse the ribbon with the lever next to the left ribbon spool, under the ribbon cover)

Is the ribbon wound in the correct direction? (should be easy to figure out by watching direction of rotation while typing, the spool should turn in the direction to wing ribbon onto the spool).
