Platen mortal sin?

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on if I have committed a mortal sin, by removing the old rubber from the platen and recovering it with tennis racket grip style heat shrink,

Anyone have any comments?

Re: Platen mortal sin?

It is not what a professional would do of course, but it is your typewriter so who am I or anyone else to say it is wrong.  If the worst came to the worst, you could always have the platen re-rubbered professionally if it didn't work out.

Re: Platen mortal sin?

The thing is, it seems to work fine, I still got to replace the felt the slugs? rest on, they make more noise when they reset than when they hit the platen
