Two ancient Remingtons

These two Remingtons are going for sale in the UK for £40 each. At least, I assume they're Remingtons; that's how the owner described them.

I admit I'm tempted. For one thing, I'd like to see what's under all that dirt.

If you have to choose one, which would you go for?

They're both very interesting, but I wouldn't buy either of them.

Re: Two ancient Remingtons

My choice would be the first one... I like the curved front plate. But I'd definitely try to negotiate a lower price, and get the garden hose ready.

Re: Two ancient Remingtons

The curved noiseless would be my choice too. Apart from looking more interesting, the other model has some significant paint loss. Shame about the spools though.

But £40 is too much, and I ought to spend more time on the machines I have already...

Re: Two ancient Remingtons

The first is not a Remington, but a The Noiseless: http://www.typewriter.be/noiseless4.htm
Remington bought the company after a few years, so The Noiseless is quite rare.
The second one looks like a Remington 7.
Both are interesting, but only worth the money if they are in decent shape. Now they are worthless, a pity.

Thanks for the link. I can see now that there's too much wrong with the Noiseless for it to be worth the effort.

Re: Two ancient Remingtons

Looks like they were used as sandbags during a flood. And is the second one missing a whole bank of keys?

You're right.

And I never noticed.

Re: Two ancient Remingtons

The seller has now graciously dropped the price to £35 each...
