My (new) Optima portable

Just in. Unpacked today.

A lovely Optima portable. Quite a departure from my usual typers.

Both the machine and the case are in near mint-condition (and I have two brushes - though it looks like there ought to have been a third).

A good typer, but the ribbon needs replacing.

I found her on eBay where she was being sold as an 'Olympic' for some reason...

Wow, I thought MY Optima looks nice, but yours is stunning!

Many thanks.

She was a lucky find!

Re: My (new) Optima portable

Here's a Smith-Corona Clipper I picked up recently. I like the colour and body styling (which the SC line eventually abandoned). In my experience, these SC portables are reliable, solid, and easy to use. I've posted more pics in the recent acquisitions thread.

Re: My (new) Optima portable

From what I read, Optima was the DDR continuation of the Olympia brand after the war and the wall.  I've never found a good description of the relative quality of Optima and Olympia - any thoughts on that question?

Sincerely,
beak.

I have an Olympia SM3, an Olympia Traveler, and an Optima. The Optima is a solid typer, but I find the Olympias provide a superior 'typing experience'. In fact the Olympias are about as good as typers get, IMHO.
