Hammond 1916 Multiplex Striker Missing

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether it is possible to find a replacement and how easy this is to fix?

When you say the striker, do you mean the hammer at the back or the rubber strip that acts as a platen on these machines ?

Jumping in on an old thread:
But I'm having the same problem: the rubberized strip on the back of my Hammond finally disintegrated completely, and I'm not sure where to turn. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

See this guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hammond-Typewriter-Impression-Strips-Dont-Type-On-A-Hammond-Without-One-/282233025283?hash=item41b6663303:g:stoAAOSw~oFXIrOA

Re: Hammond 1916 Multiplex Striker Missing

Yes, I saw that. And I may have to go that route. I don't know who that guy is, but he seems to be emphatic both there on eBay and elsewhere "NOT TO TYPE WITHOUT IT IN PLACE!!!" Okay, it is there for a reason--it seems to make the printed impression better--but I used the Hammond a bit today even after the strip broke with a few sheets of backing paper, and it seemed to work okay.

I just hope I'm not damaging the shuttle by "exposing" it to the hammer... if that's indeed what I'm even doing at all.

Typing without the impression strip is a bad idea. The impression strip keeps the hammer from damaging the type.

You should be happy that somebody did the work to make this such an easy fix for you. I wish somebody would cast me a new frame for my bent Olympia SF.
