erika 10 misaligned type

I just acquired an Erika Model 10. All seems okay except the capitals are way off alignment with lower case (by a couple millimeters)- but only when I depress the left shift key. With the right shift the letters are spot on. Any advice on how to proceed? Is there any source with instructions on addressing this sort of issue?

Re: erika 10 misaligned type

On the following websites are typewriter manuals, perhaps this can help: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-manuals.html

Recently, links to the Xavier website haven’t been working for me. If this is a problem with you too, check out https://www.typewriterdatabase.com/RD-Typewriter-Tips.index.manual! Hope this helps!

Re: erika 10 misaligned type

This link is a reprint from a late 1960's Readers Digest Home Repair Manual.  If you look closely, the typewriter used for the illustrations in an Olympia Splendid 66.  As far as it goes, it gives reasonable advice.

You can use archive.org if nothing else is available, see my comment here. Richard Polt has by now confirmed the problem on the TYPEWRITERS Yahoo group and recommends just using HTTPS.

Re: erika 10 misaligned type

good, I get the general idea from the Readers Digest reprint. Now it looks like I will need a spanner screwdriver to loosen the lock nut. Appears to be about a 4mm +or- gap over the adjusting screw. Anyone able to tell me what the size is  (is there a German standard), or where is a good source for a set of tools in that approximate range?
