I'm going to take a few of my typewriters off display and stick the out of sight, probably into a wardrobe. Whats the best way to make sure they dont go mouldy or rust etc whilst theyre in there. My house can have a condensation and damp problem at times. Should i wrap them up in plastic carrier bags? Should i remove the ribbon and seal them separately to stop them drying out?

Any advice appreciated.

Ah, right.
They're much cheaper than the 22 on ebay. Very tempting!

In my search through the ebay listings for a clean, reasonably priced Olivetti 22, I keep seeing a machine called the Olivetti Scribe. It looks pretty much identical as far as i can see, and i cant find much info about it on google. Does anybody know what the difference is between these two typewriters is?

Thanks

Small update:
Managed to get the first few contributions, if anyone is interested in having a peruse.
Quite difficult to find stuff that wasn't already used in other publications, but a nice little mix to get us started

Of course, offer still open to anyone who fancies contributing.

Are there any Medium bloggers on the forum at all?

I've created a Typewriter Publication on it if anyone is interested in contributing?
Let me know and I'll add you as a Writer/Contributor.

here's a link to it

I've only just joined it myself so it's empty at the moment. Still trying to figure it all out.

I love it. To look at, it's hard to comprehend it was made over 60 years ago.

Bought this early Olympia SM3 (pretty sure that's what it is) last week.
This thing smelled so bad when I opened up the case. Stunk my house out for days.
The mould had really stuck onto those plastic keys and it took a lot of elbow grease to get it off, but it cleaned up well and, besides for a tiny bit of rust around the back which i think will wipe off, it looks pretty much brand new and it works great.

Thanks igotztowrite.

Yes, I can see the lever is setting and removing the tabs.

Not sure what the brake stop is, but I'll do what you suggest and remove the back plate and see if anything looks wrong.

The margins seem to be working fine.
