It has been a while since I posted, but with my new platens installed, I'm ready to get back into typing!
Thanks for the ribbon info; I'll probably stick with nylon, but I'm tempted to try the cotton and silk. I looked at Ribbons Unlimited and found a couple of ones I want to buy.

I just had two of my typewriter platens and their feeds re-covered by Short. I did a 1947 Underwood SS (the platen is 14" and it has two feeds) and a 1940 Royal KMM (platen is also 14" with two feeds). The Underwood cost $125 and the Royal cost $130, plus shipping, which wasn't that much. The turnaround was ten days.
I've installed the Underwood platen and it works great. Now all I hear is the machine's regular noise, instead of the clack of the typeface on the rock hard platen. I can't wait to have the Royal up and running again!

What’s the difference between nylon, cotton, and silk ribbons? And what’s the best way to store ribbons so they’ll last a long time?=15pxYears ago I bought ribbons at Office Depot, so what’s the best place to buy ribbons now? I have an Underwood and Royal from the 40's.

My third anniversary for buying my first typewriter (a 1947 Underwood SS) was a few days ago. Here we are and here's to many more years typing on it. Yes, that's a chicken in the background.

I understand the reservations of using anything Facebook is involved with. I mainly use my account to advertise my book blog so my face doesn't make an appearance and I haven't shared any personal information.
I'll definitely try taking some unique pictures, sans mugs, soon. Unfortunately, two of my favorite machines are 30-40lb so hauling them around to pretty places is a bit of a pain.

Does anyone have an Instagram account centered around typewriters that I can follow? I'd love to see people showcasing their collections.
I have an account (@damselinthelibrary) but it's focused on books and my bookish drawings instead of my typewriters. I want to start incorporating my typewriters more, so does anyone have advice on the best angle for pictures?

I had no luck on Craigslist. This typewriter is still available if anyone's interested.

It's a daisywheel. And thank you for correcting me; I didn't know there was a difference between electric and electronic.

My dad's visiting my grandma and she has an Espon elite 100. He says it works and I'm sure it's hardly been used. But I don't have a lot of space right now (trying to sell one of my other typewriters) and I'm not sure if I'd  even like using an electric typewriter. Does anyone have one and do you like it? Would anyone want to buy it?

That is really interesting information about the defense contractor. I'd love to see something like that included in tv shows/movies.
The ribbon might have been fresh, but the writers probably didn't think too carefully about it.

Last night I started watching Amazon Prime's adaptation of The ABC Murders and since it takes place in the '30s a typewriter was used to write the letters. But so far they haven't shown any of the typewriters up close, just what is written; like an exclamation point made all at once, not using a period and apostrophe. I know few people would care to get a detail like that right, but it'd be cool if they did.
