Recently acquired one of the ubiquitous Royal portables sold under many names. So much lighter than any of my Remingtons. I am looking forward to traveling with it. The only minor condition issue is that the rubber pads on the pegs under the ribbon cover seem to have fallen apart. Any fix for this? see picture for example of machine. https://assets.catawiki.nl/assets/2017/1/6/4/c/6/4c6bf5e6-d3eb-11e6-815d-ae828fc2f2d6.jpg

I have been working on a Remington 6 and the ribbon was broken on one end and repaired. Numerous times the end of the ribbon was attached to the spool with tacks. Not wanting to do that again I stuck the ribbon under that weight and then cranked it around till it didn't slip. How would the ribbon originally have been attached?

When I was very young, my parents gave me a typewriter that was basically intended as a toy. When I figured it all out and showed a strong preference to type with it instead of a computer they took it away. I just recently saw one and it turns out to be a Royal Jet. I was wondering if this is actually a good typewriter that I should try to find again? I don't remember a lot about using it but I am sure it is different from my 20s and 30s Remingtons. Is that plastic snap lid weak, or does it hold up well?
