I found the culprit. A little part of the escapement broke off during transport. I’ll try and repair it.

Hi Folks, my Hermes Ambassador (ca. 1960-62) has a new drawband, but now the carriage doesn’t stop after one space, when I hit a key or the spacebar. Tabulator works, I think I maybe have to adjust the escapement or trip? Does anybody have a hint for me? If I type fast, I can write words, but there are always too many spaces between them.

Thank’s a lot. I managed to repair the drawband, but now there is another problem. I think I will start another thread for it.

Hi guys, my newly acquired Hermes Ambassador from 1960ish arrived with a broken drawband. It shouldn’t be difficult to replace it, but I can’t find a hook to fasten the end of the drawband. Can you help me, please? I tried to embed the image,

but it won’t work, so here is the link. https://imgur.com/a/VqQUH8g

In Germany, near Frankfurt/Main, situation is similar. People are hoarding toilet paper, flour and yeast. Why? Nobody knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Streets are pretty empty, most shops are closed, as are restaurants. But you can order and get your food or books delivered. I have CLL, so I am in the risk group and work from home since last wednesday, and that ist pretty great. We didn’t change our buying habits, either. Hopefully the shutdown will flatten the curve, soon - without damaging the economy too much.

Welcome! Some nice machines you have there! You do "need" an Olympia SG1 or SG3 also -- but I completely understand the suspicious look from your wife!

The look got even more suspicious as I decided I need indeed not only portable typewriters, but at least a standard sized. I will have a look at an Adler Universal 40 this evening. But I promised I will sell some other machines, like  the Facit 1620, the Torpedo 18b from 1952 and the Adler Tippa.

Hi Sky, thanks a lot. I was just about to post the thing with the two levers. I read about it, too, but didn't understand how to open until just now. I didn't read about the thing with the pegs or pins, however, so thanks again for the hint. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Hi together, I just got my first Torpedo 30 and I can't figure out how to remove the bottom of the case and the Lid over the type bars. Does anybody know? I would appreciate any help.

I’m pretty new to this, but had to fix already some sticking typebars on some machines I got. In my experience, cleaning works much better than oiling.
