This typewriter looks like a normal Remington Noiseless 10, but in the back are 2 unusual additions:
1/ a sort of portico with a sliding rod and a scale 1 to 7.
2/ a knob with numbers also.
Does someone know what those are?

On this Remington Noiseless 10, the drawband snapped and the main spring is most likely detached, if not broken, inside the drum.
But I can't see how to pull the drum out. Does the frame need to be disassembled? That's what I'm trying to understand (I looked at the service manual and Ames manual vol. 3, but things are not clear to me).

The back spacer on my Smith Corona Sterling Electric 12 is being powered for some reason. When I turn the machine on the carriage starts moving by itself in a jerky fashion.

If I press the backspace key it stops.

Any clue on how to solve this?

I'm looking for a Smith-Corona electric carriage return pulley (my model is Electra XT but I think most models have a similar mechanism). If you have a spare one, or can salvage one from a broken machine, please let me know. I'd like to buy it or trade.

Thanks Sky.The serial number is 3LMC22447.

The machine didn't have an escapement issue, nor any other issues that I could tell. It's only because I pressed the Power Space key that the problem occurred. I thought this fact should help narrow things down.

Everything was working fine on the Smith-Corona Sterling I just got until I push the Power Space key (|||||>), then the carriage slammed to the left, and now it doesn't move when I type. If I push it to the right it immediately slides back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Note this exact problem was described here 3 years ago. The only solution offered was to look under the machine, but as far as I can tell the SC Sterling chassis is unmovable.
