Ah, okay! Thank you for pointing that out to me. I completely understand the reasoning behind that!

I can't tell if it's because I'm ill and my sick brain is foggy, but I cannot figure out how to edit my first post. I hope a double post is alright!

Further inspection reveals that the little hooked bar that connects to the teeth o the plastic gear underneath is not being retracted under the left side. It does not move, whereas the one on the right does in correspondence to the auto-reverse mechanism.

It seems there's some sort of issue with the auto-reverse of my Olivetti Lettera 32 and I believe I've narrowed it down to an issue with the mechanism for the left spool. The auto-reverse only works one way as the pulling mechanism of the left spool never stops regardless of when the auto-reverse has been triggered so that it is the right's turn to pull the ribbon back. Every time I press a key, the ribbon always advances to the left. The right spool makes indication it wants to pull the other way but the left always pulls harder and forces the right to move with it.

I need a replacement spacebar for my Hermes Ambassador. An owner in the past seems to have pried off the keys at some point (I had to fix a couple of backward keys) and lost the spacebar. The spacebar works fine, it's just the plastic shell that I need! Currently it's just metal that remains.

I felt very lucky in managing to find this Hermes Ambassador and even more so in being able to snatch it up at a mere £12.50! I don't think the owner knew its worth, which is evident in the cosmetic condition of the machine. I've taken this photo from the best angle of the typewriter. There's an awful lot of faded paint with splatter marks on the right making me wonder if it was left under dripping water (?) as well as rusting in paint scratches. The space bar shell also seems to have gone missing at some point, though the action is in no way compromised itself and I put a little bit of patterned paper around the metal temporarily. Though not the prettiest Hermes Ambassador to still be around, the aesthetic in no way reflects the superior typing action! Very smooth, clear letters, able to keep up with my very fast typing without the keys crashing together, and I'm in love with the typeface! I did clean the typewriter but there's a whole lot of dirt as I believe this was just gathering it in somebody's attic. The serial number tells me it was produced in 1956!

Very happy with my latest addition! The flatmates seem to like it too, which is good considering I intend to be using it heavily. One commented on how 'pretty' it looked and the other mentioned how her typewriter at home (I asked what it was but she had no idea) always had key jams so she was surprised that I could type so quickly without that happening to me.

No one wrote what the price was up to at the time the discussion was happening! I just checked, and with 24 minutes left to go it's up to £102.

It was £48 the last time I checked, on the 16th! And yes, agreed on the picture! I may copy that idea and take a picture of my new Hermes tomorrow from my own flat balcony, albeit I'm only three floors up so the views are not as nice!

This made me smirk a little! The majority of listings I see lists typewriters as very rare... and underneath is five more of the exact same model!

Regardless, this particular one does look to be quite beautiful, though I stopped bidding the same day I posted this. I predict it will go for at least a hundred pounds, considering the auction is already approaching fifty pounds with two days left to spare. I'm still watching it, just out of curiosity!

I like to browse through typewriter Ebay listings quite frequently to occasionally try snap up a machine but mostly to marvel at what's on show. Today, I came across a particularly beautiful Imperial Good Companion, with the seller listing it as very rare due to its green keys. A quick Google search revealed very little information (actually, none whatsoever), so I was wondering if perhaps anybody here knew anything additional about this machine and its peculiar - but very pretty - keys.

Here's a link to the Ebay listing.

I've seen these typewriters on Ebay, selling for quite a bit due to them being American and not English. Always thought they were a prop, or, at the very least, only just functional for what they were being marketed for (wedding guestbooks). All I can think of is how many decent vintage machines you could get for that hefty price. That silver ribbon looks lovely, however!

With regards to this particular model I have printed off a picture, the name, and roughly how much the selling price is so that my family and friends can keep an eye out for it for me. That is how badly I want it, and for good reason, too! What a lovely typewriter you possess. Very sleek and elegant, and the typeface looks gorgeous as well.

I'll leave it to the experts to help you out with your problem, however. I'm too much of a novice to really know much more than the basics. Really at the moment all I can do is admire, change ribbons, and fix easy problems.
