Maintenance & Repairs » Remington Rand Model 1....paper isn't held firmly against the platen » 09-8-2020 18:03:05

I have a really nice old Remington Rand Model 1.  But I have noticed that after inserting paper (good quality typing paper) that sometimes the paper doesn't advance. Its like it the platen isn't pushed onto the paper hard enough for it to keep good traction.

Is this something that can be adjusted, or is the platen mostly likely worn out and is to blame?

It pecks like a chicken, but it just isn't very loud, and it has no RING to it, for lack of a better word.

Anyone here have one of these?  Is your bell pretty wimpy sounding?  This bell is not very loud, and is more of a "donk" than a "ding".  It is very small. Is it supposed to be this quiet?

Agreed. I have emailed Tony, and sent him photos. He is going to get me some.

I found this locally today for next to nothing. I love it when people think all typewriters are worthless.

Everything works well. The only issue of any note is the feet are hard as a rock. Still intact but real solid like stones. Its nice and light, and the keys are quite snappy. All the decals are perfect, and there isn't a scratch on it anywhere.

Oh, yeah!  That lever is really nice. I'm loaded and ready to type in mere moments.

BTW, it has become my favorite typewriter. It has personality that is hard to explain. It speaks to me as I walk by, and entices me to sit and type something on it.

I glued a piece of rubber tubing to it.

I like it more than I thought I would.  It types very nicely, and presents crisply to paper.  I have a few cartridges, and they are are functional.   For some reason, it makes me want to dig out my Commodore 64.
