That’s exactly the desk that I have, the Malm, and I have my Royal Custom set in that pull out section. It works great!

Just examined my 1971 Royal Sabre stem to stern and read the manual cover to cover, there does not appear to be any form of carriage lock built into the typewriter. All the best,

Sky

Hi Sky,

Thanks for your help! Yeah, I was starting to think that was the case. I found a manual for a ‘64 safari, which it’s almost identical to the Custom, and there is no mention of that. I was wondering about it. I guess the reason for this is that the carry case doesn’t have much room for it to move freely?

I really love this typewriter, and it’s the first one I bought. I may buy more, depending on how my career goes, the income, and living space.

I’m still trying to figure out why some have CU and CM in their serial numbers.

Thanks a bunch!

Hey y’all!

This is my first post here! I’m happy to be a part of this community. I’m a screenwriter and I just got a few days ago a 1966 Royal Custom typewriter in very good conditions. It’s my first typewriter since my college years back in the early 90’s.

I’m very happy with this purchase, but I do have a question.

I understand that many typewriters have a carriage lock in order to secure it when traveling.

I have not seen that on the Royal Custom. Does this typewriter has one? And if it does, where do you find this carriage lock?

I would love to know. I’d appreciate if any other Royal Custom or Safari owner would know this.

Here’s mine at the Typewriter Database:
https://ep.typewriterdatabase.com/1966-royal-custom.11576.typewriter

Also, I noticed that some Custom has serial numbers that start with CU, but mine starts with CM. Any reason why there is that difference?

Thanks y’all!
