Yes, I have removed the bottom panel. Unfortunately, the margin release mechanism is partly incapsulated by the long bar through which all the springs between the keys and typebars go. Inside here, there is a part that moves horisontally when the long rod connecting it with the margin setter is moved back and forwards. However, it does not move when the margin release key is depressed. The link between the key and the horisontally moving part must be broken somewhere, but it is hard to figure out where exactly.

I have an Olympia Splendid 99 with a non-functioning margin release mechanism. It used to work fine, but then, suddenly not. I suspect it has something to do with a tiny O-ring of metal that I found in the typewriter's case the same day as the mechanism stopped working. However, I cannot figure out where the link between the button and the internal mechanism is, and where the ring goes. I would be grateful if someone could post a picture of the mechanism, or, better still, guide me as to where I might find a drawing of it.

Thanks! The rubber had become almost petrified, but some silicon oil actually did the trick for me too.

Some additional information that might be useful: The model is an Erika 9 from 1952. I have tried knocking out both the nails themselves from beneath the wooden plate, as well as knocking on the whole rubber-foot. There are rubber washers on both the over- and underside of the plate. Some wiggling is possible, but they don't move a lot when knocked on, and seem very firmly attatched.

I wonder if anyone knows how to separate a Erika 9 from the baseplate of its wooden suitcase? The feet seem to be nailed rather than screwed together.
Maintenance & Repairs » Groma modell N margin release » 18-7-2022 09:14:04 |
I have a 1954 Groma modell N which works very well in every way except one: The link between the margin release mechanism and the margin release button is missing. I am planning to replace the old, missing link with a piece of metal wire. I would appreciate if someone with the same typewriter model could post a photo of the mechanism, to help me understand where the wire goes in between all the other parts.
Maintenance & Repairs » Erika 10 drawband » 11-2-2022 09:43:28 |
Thanks for the advice. I managed to figure out where the sleeve went, and after some fiddling the problem was solved.
Maintenance & Repairs » Erika 10 drawband » 12-12-2021 11:34:08 |
A little while back, the drawband of my Erika 10 snapped during typing. I have tried to search this forum (and googled) for advice on how to reattatch it, but without luck. The drawband itself is almost intact. It seems to have been attatched to a small metal sleeve, which it has been inserted through, and prevented from slipping back by tying it into a knot at the end. The band broke excacly at the knot, and the small metal sleeve fell on the table from somewhere at the right side of the typewriter. I don't know where it was attatched to the rest of the machine.
Can anyone provide me with a picture of the (working) drawband of an Erika 10, which can guide me on how to reattatch the band? Or maybe someone has a repair manual for the machine in question? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Maintenance & Repairs » Typebars not descending all the way on Continental 340 » 24-8-2021 06:16:34 |
Phil, thank you for your advice. The machine is now cleaned as thoroughly as I am able to without dismantling it. There is still no difference in how far down the typebars may be pushed. They do not meet any obstruction in the segment, because then I don't think it would be possible to push them all the way down at all. But some of the typebars still seem to be too "tense". I wonder if this might have something to do with a spring that is out of its place somewhere.

I apologize for the space shuttle; it was a failed attempt of including a picture in the post, and I haven't figured out how to edit a post that is already posted...
