Does anyone have, or is able to get, a photo of the letter space dog spring of a Caligraph No. 4? I believe it's part 88A on page 14 of the No. 3 Special user manual. The dog on mine flops down with no spring tension so it doesn't engage the rack, so the carriage shoots to the left. I don't see any hide nor hair of any springs or other mechanism that might've provided any tension to keep it engaged with the rack.
Goal is to make a new spring, but ideally I'd like to know what a real one looks like first or if that's even the right part.

Necropost, but that's a No. 6. Obvious visual differences between the two are:
-the No. 5 has a thinner front bezel than the No. 6.
-the No. 5 and 42 keys, the No. 6 has 38 keys.
-the No. 5 has no cover for the typebasket's front edge, while the No. 6 does (though it's sometimes missing).
-the No. 5 has two front carriage wheels, while the No. 6 only has one.
-the No. 5 has a bare wood spacebar, while the No. 6's is black.
Upstrike Remingtons had at least three different decals styles declaring their model number; yours looks like it previously had the "rectangular" type (for example, this No. 8 ), but after it wore away someone replaced it with the more common "large" decal.
In a nutshell, you have a No. 6 whose front decal wore off and someone replaced it with the correct one of a different style.

The spools on my Remington 6 had a small flap of ribbon permanently attached to either spool. The rest of the ribbon is held in place by a little pin skewering both the ribbon and the small flap. Of course I didn't realize this until I'd pulled the old ribbon and pin out and tore the flap off the spool. Be careful if you service the ribbon on yours - the pins on mine were so badly rusted that I couldn't see either at first, and one disintegrated in my fingers upon removal.

I'm currently at 58 typewriters, have never sold or otherwise rid myself of any, though I have had to slow down as I start focusing on condition of a machine rather than letting anything pass. Got a couple boat anchors with that mindset... yes I'm looking at you, front half of a Smith Premier 2. Examining, repairing, and comparing them all is too much fun.
My all-time favorite machine for typing on is a dead tie between the Royal QDL and the Royal No. 5.
