We are visiting my parents in O'Falllon MO. Here are some of the typewriters we saw. They were all in relatively nice condition. I also took some pics of a few adding machines and a sewing machine if anyone wants to see those let me know.
Remington Streamliner ~$29
Royal KMM $165
Facit. Was nice, I looked in the case but forgot to take a pic. Almost got this, but $89 was more than I wanted to spend.
One of the massively overpriced underwoods. I think tag said 1923. Wanted $400.
Another overpriced Underwood. $525!
Olympia SM? ~$70 no case
Remington Letter Riter $24

Did you get the Remington Letter-Riter? I got mine at a flea market in Pasadena, California for $20 and it's a solid machine. Not my favorite, but a nice one nonetheless.

At those prices I would have only considered the two Remingtons, and the Olympia SM7 - but only if there was $20 of bargaining room on it.

I got the Letter Riter. Not a stunning find, but like ztypr said, it seems to be a solid little machine. It is in very good shape as far as I can tell. the ribbons are weird. I'll have to see if a standard ribbon fits. I'm not sure. Anyway, I've got lots of ribbons at home I can re-spool if I need to.

Just trying to figure out the diff. in prices. Was it like an antique mall with different sellers?

Yes, it was individual booths. So they price their own stuff,

I always enjoy seeing what other people are spotting, as I never find anything at all! Some wonderfully overpriced machines! Will be interested to hear how you get on with the Letter-Riter. I think they also take those wide hole spools for the Underwood Touchmaster or Imperial 70?

I'm not sure, it looks like the spools that are in there now are just rings with a cover that snaps over. When I get home I can see if the wide spools fit. I haven't done any research on it yet as my parents are keeping us hopping, I'm surprised we even got a chance to go out looking, we are going to a ball game this afternoon if we don't get rained out.

I'm sorry to say that these Remingtons don't actually take spools. They have their own that only they can fit into. There's a ring that keeps the ribbon in place and you have to take the ribbon off of the spool it came in and put into the spools of the Remington. It's a fustrating and dirty process, but the good thing is that regular ribbons fit into the machine.

Looks like you found a few machines on your safari! The little 1960s Euorpean-made Remington Streamliner actually isn't a bad little machine. I had one for a while, and while nothing about it was mind-blowing, it was certainly a capable little typewriter.
