I recently acquired a Smith-Corona Pride Line. It's in great working order on the whole, the line break lever is a little slack and the ribbon needs re-inking.
I'm aware that the spools for Pride Line are an unsual size and that I'll either have to wind new ribbon on the spool or reink the current ribbon with stamp ink - but - how on earth do I get the spool out of the machine? It seems that they need to unscrewed with a flat head screw driver but after giving this a go, I still couldn't the spool out - it came loose but I was just going round in circles.
Can any one give me maintenance advice for this machine in particular - it's an awkward character...
With best wishes,
Claire

I had a look at the two pride line typewriters on the typewriter database, and the spools look very much like the ones on my skyriter. I have never heard of a spool that has to be unscrewed. Is there a small lever resting on the ribbon, preventing the spool from coming out? Sometimes spools are kept in place like this. You just have to swing the lever out of the way with a finger while lifting out the spool. The spools on my skyriter are quite a snug fit and simply need to be lifted off, without a lever to fiddle with. Once you have posted 3times you can include pictures, which would be good to see so we can work out what you need to do. Of course there might be someone here with the same machine which would be even better. I had never come across this one before!

The one I looked at in the database was posted by M. Hoehne, so maybe he will see this and reply.

Thank you for getting back to - you'll be pleased to know I finally managed to release the spools! One cartirdge is metal and the other is plastic (perhaps someone botched it together) and there are little notches inside the central hole that need aligning with the typewriter's shaft before it will budge.
So I'm on my way to reinking!!!
Still keen to keep in touch over this model - I'm lookin for a manual for example.
All the best,
Claire

great stuff. that's exactly the same as the skyriter then. can be a bit of a fiddle! I found the manual for the corsair, which doesn't look all that different from your pride line
to be quick, I'd just get another new ribbon and re-spool, and take time re-inking as it can be messy and blotchy. don't forget to buy metal stamp ink, rubber stamp ink will degrade your typeface over time. I have used this ink with good results. you do have to spread it over the ribbon as you wind, and a pair of disposable gloves are essential!
