Just got a Remington portable, and the felt is so hard that every time i press a key, the typebar lands with a loud clunk, and the q typebar is scraping against the support because the felt is hard and shrunk. Any tips for replacing felt?

Replaced the felt on it. If anyone wants to know how, or needs felt cut to exact length, contact me.
Heres how it came out.

I've always wanted a Remington Portable, but I've met my typewriter quota for the month...
P.S. Does it have a margin release key? I'd love to know if I ever consider getting one.

My Remington 5 portable does have a margin release key. It is not labeled as such except in the manual.

It does not have a margin release key, BUT on the carriage there is a margin release lever.

Hm. I'm not sure how I feel about a MR lever. But I'm sure one gets used to it just like having backspace on the left.

I guess it isn't really a key but it is there. sorry for confusion.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of felt did you use? The felt and rubber bed on my Royal 10 is so bad, that the type bars bounce when they come back down. This is them leaves to them hitting each other when the adjacent typebar goes up to print.

First off, I have LOADS of sheets of rubber roofing material. Its just rubber in the form of sheets. If you need that, let me know, and we can work something out. As for the felt, I went to lowes and found the felt section, where theres felt bumpers, and small felt strips, etc. There were two felt rolls, one in white, one in black. I got the black one. The name is Felt Roll, with the brand Softroll in the corner. Its in a blue and yellow box. If you want, I can cut both to length foryou.
