Olympia SG-1 Locked up

I have just purchased a Olympia SG-1 (the non-deluxe).
It has some issues the main one being that it is locked up. No typing, carriage release does nothing and the carriage is stuck and cannot be returned. Unless I remove the shell, then it works fine.
Is this due to degrading rubber washers in between the shell and the frame?
or is it something else entirely.

Re: Olympia SG-1 Locked up

Is the carriage locked with some sort of carriage lock lever?

Not that I know of. Its a standard and those don't usually have them

Re: Olympia SG-1 Locked up

When you remove the shell, look inside.  Is there any evidence of something rubbing on the shell that might be disengaged once the shell is removed? Sorry I didn't know that standards didn't have a way to lock the carriage.

Re: Olympia SG-1 Locked up

I fixed it.
The spacebar stops were bent downward just slightly that kept the spacebar semi-engaged.
When I bent them up a little it works fine.
