Caligraph Carriage

Hello, everyone!
I just got a new Caligraph no.2 typewriter. The Serial number is  25k, I have no idea what year that puts it at.
Being as old as it is, there just bound to be an  issue. The carriage is broken. I don't see a drawstring anywhere or anything like it. I have fiddled with the machine for quite some time, removing covers, and oiling the (cleaned) rails. Thank you for the help guys!

Re: Caligraph Carriage

Hi there!

I do not have a Caligraph, but I do know a little about them.

You should see a big metal structure on the back of the machine connected to the carriage. That is the carriage advancement mechanism. You will need to flip over the calligraph, and on the bottom you will see a big spring. Most likely, its broken, due to the extreme amount of pressure that was built up to move the carriage. I do not know how to replace it, but search around and you will be able to find out how.

Back from a long break.

Starting fresh with my favorite typer. A Royal Futura!
