Smith-Corona Galaxie Twelve
This was selling at a reasonable price, so I took a chance. Turns out it's a very nice machine that types really nicely. It has a lot of features, my favorites being the "Power Space," which advances the carriage rapidly, and the key dejammer. Don't hesistate to get one if you find it.

In my concerted opinion, these were among the best portables made. Oh they have their quirks, but they have a wide availability, parts interchangeability, and a uniformity of quality. Oh, they're not the monoliths of an Alpina or an Olympia SM-series typewriter, but they are a very nice American-made machine, and I have bought, sold, traded, and rented many.
