I know this discussion is an old one going back to 2017.
Did not see mention of the usefulness of using an air compressor to blow out the solvent-dissolved gunk and oil oil while it is still in the liquid state.
Without compressed air blowing, the liquified stuff will just re-harden quickly and make things sticky again.
I also like to buy these needle-applicator bottles on eBay to get solvent right down into each slot in the segment. The needle is the perfect diameter to get down into each of the segment slots.

And I bought this "Capri" air blow gun from eBay as well for my air compressor hose. Comes in handy to get into small spaces.

Very similar to the blow gun that I use professionally, but I made an extra long nozzle to be able to get right inside full size office manual typewriters.
