Worked fine when I got it, but now the margins don't work. I have a feeling this is an easy fix, but I still haven't figured it out. Any suggestions? I tried the tab lever and the one on the other side.

Could the margin release mechanism be sticking?

Soucek, good question. I'll fiddle with it.

What do you mean when you say the margins are not working?Do you mean that when you set them at certain points, you can still move the carriage right on past them?

Yep: they won't stay--goes right past them.

Can you see the mechanism? Is it visible or is it hidden behind the body of the typewriter?
if you have it disassembled you should be able to the mechanism engage...or not engage
i had an Adler Contessa once with similar issues...it was just excess oil gunked up around the components, the reason they weren't engaging

Schyllerwade put me on the right path. I looked at the escapement slot in the back, where there are two small levers flanking it. I fiddled with them, using a small knife, and the right one clicked, engaging the margins. Really glad this one got fixed (thanks, guys!): it's a really nice machine with beautifully crisp typeface.
