SC Sterling Floating Shift

I bought a SC Sterling portable typewriter at a garage sale.  It is made of glossy black metal. It does not have any markings. Using the serial number (3A99512) I found it is a Smith Corona from 1941. I cannot find a similar machine with the glossy finish.  Has this been repainted?  It really doesn't look like it has.  I am not a collector,  just found an interesting piece.  Thanks for any information!

Gloss black was one of the color options for the late-30's 2-series Corona Sterling "Speedline" models.  I am not sure if gloss black was a color option for the 3-series Sterling Speedline models in '41. You can see examples of late-30's Sterlings in glossy black here.
