Hello, I'm restoring a 1961 Olympia SG-1. It's in good condition mechanically, but it has been an east coast machine the whole time and there is a little surface rust that I have to clean up on the inside.
My biggest issue with the machine though is some flaking of the plating on the carriage return arm. If I can get this taken care of, I will end up with a complete SG-1 (including the paper support) in like new condition with all new JJ Short rubber. I was thinking about removing it to have it replated, but it doesn't look like a simple task based on what little I can see/feel inside the carriage. Has anyone here removed a return arm before on the SG-1 or even any machine? If so, I would appreciate any advice you have for me.
Thanks!

I know that this reply is very late but you might be able to get a razor replater to replate it for you. They are used to doing small batches/pieces. The cost might be prohibitive. I have not had a razor replated by this gentleman but I think he has a good reputation in the vintage razor world.

That's good advice, thank you for taking the time to reply! Have you ever removed a carriage return arm from an Olympia machine before?
