Arrived today. Too late to start cleaning.
BUT the great news is that both metal spools on my new Halda P are indeed the right spools for this machine.

Cleaned up and ready to go to work.
Ribbon spool auto-reverse just needed a deep de-degreasing and air-dry. It works in both directions.
8-key is still a bit sticky...will sort that out in the next day or so.
Love the action. Feels very similar to my Olympia SM3 but the Halda is a segment-shifter.

Looks great. I like the usage of color, the way green and black alternate. But what I like the most is the green line finder.

I was thinking that I might repaint the upper surfaces a nice ivory-cream color...but this one is in such perfect paint, I will not have the heart to do so.
I cleaned the paint with "scrubbing bubbles" bathroom spray cleaner and a white cotton towel, The towel was brownish when I finished the cleaning.
I did spray on some WD-40 on the painted surfaces and wiped down with a clean towel, and it leaves a nice satin shine to the paint. And a familiar smell.

It looks as close to pristine as any I have seen. When I had my Halda six, I was looking for just such a machine.
Bravo! Thank you for the quality images. It's all very nice.

Another simple pleasure for me on the machine is the logical location of the carriage lock/release lever placed low on the right side body panel.
None of that messing with a partially hidden lever somewhere below one side of the carriage rails area.

Ended up with a spare case for a 1980's Japanese-made Sears Electric 12 typewriter. It was a $ 4.99 win on SGW with a parts machine and a very nice case.
Parts machine got another identical machine up to 100% and off to a nice neighborhood kid.
The space case fits my 1955 Halda P perfectly. All I need to do is add a velcro hold-down strap inside the case.

That's a gorgeous machine! I have had my sights on the Halda P for a while, but I don't really see them pop up much. Those spools are hard to come by, glad you sorted the auto reverse. I was going to mention something about the spools, but you know what you're doing lol!

Glad I was able to pick up my Halda P for $ 96 USD plus some S/H out of WA State.
Here is a dealer in The Netherlands that currently has five (5) of them for sale...all with really BIG asking prices. 1 out of the 5 may even be missing their proprietary metal ribbon spools.
