Hi all,
I am new to this forum, and I'm so happy this is a thing! I am hoping one of you maybe can help me out with a problem I am having with my Olivetti Praxis 40. I have Googled myself to death, and you are basically my only hope.
The short version of this is that when I push the return button, everything goes as it is supposed to except that the platen doesn't turn to move the sheet and shift the line. The platen just sort of trembles and stays in the same place. The electric return button and mechanism does what it's supposed to do, as far as I can tell (I am, however, not an experienced typewriter guy, so what do I know...). There is some sort of gear mechanism to the left on the platen, where the return mechanism exchanges with the platen. This is where the problem rests, if I'm to guess - but then again, what do I know.
Do any of gou guys have any experience with the Olivetti Praxis 40? In any case, I would really appreciate any ideas you might have.
Thank you so much for your time.
Peter

As far as I remember, the Praxis 40 is an electronic typewriter but has a mechanical linespace mechanism driven by a tiny DC motor. It does sound as if this mechanism is jammed (if you are lucky - otherwise either the motor or the part of the main circuit board that drives it has failed). I can only suggest that you take the outer casing off the machine carefully and see if you can hand-cycle the linespace mechanism to see what is jamming. Good Luck
