Good weekend for machines. Picked up this '49 Royal QDL, tombstone keys:
Also picked up This Smith-Corona Electra 12, which I'm almost certain is 1960. Gave it a cleaning, it works great.
This will probably be my one and only machine that uses electricity. But it's a nice change of pace.
On both machines, the platen has life in it, which was a pleasant surprise.

A badly listed Studio 42, admittedly with no case from the looks of things. For a pretty amazing price. I've done the ritual email about packing; now just waiting...

Bid and won an SG1. Hoping it cleans up well. It will be my first, and I've been wanting it for a long time. I'll post when it arrives.

If your SG1 still has its paper support in tact - I'd ask the seller to remove it and pack it in bubble-wrap separately - they are very prone to damage and nigh impossible to replace. Fingers crossed!

Never having seen an SG1 paper support I wouldn't know how to tell the seller how to remove it from the machine -- any tips we can pass on for pdxtypewriter to tell the seller?

I saw an SG1 on eBay in New Mexico. Man was it clean, almost a virgin and the paper support looked immaculate. They wanted $300 and about $50 to ship. It eventually went for $250. There is also a super nice Royal 10 I'm supposed to see in Washington state. I really gotta watch the pocked book when yore all ate up with typewriter. pdxtypewriter, does pdx imply Oregon?

The paper rest pivots on two pins that are held in place by two metal clips. It's extremely easy to pop the pins out of the clips to remove the paper rest, which is one reason why so many of them are missing.
The pronoun I has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.

This example has no paper rest, so nothing to worry about--unfortunately.

Well, welcome to the "no paper rest SG1 club"! I have two SG1s, both like that.
More important than the paper rest is that the seller packs the typewriter properly. There is at least one string of horror stories here about inadequately packed typewriters. Have you discussed packaging with the seller?
