Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

...And it seems I'm in for a lengthy spell of cleaning the typebars -- still (again) gummed up after a liberal application of naphtha and Goof-Off (xylene). May have to get something stronger, maybe carburetor cleaner.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Just bought this one: https://desmoines.craigslist.org/atq/d/typewriter-olympia-deluxe/6342673147.html

The advert says it's from the 60's but the serial number says it's 1955.  Another SM-3.  Gray with maroon/burgundy keys and it works great so far.  Needs a little limbering up but then so do I.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

I received two typewriters from my grandmother's neighbor: a 1961 Olympia SM7 and a 1970s Smith-Corona Coronamatic 2200. Both work fairly well.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

I also bought this Adler Modell 25 from England on EBay. Unfortunately, it arrived with the front frame broken and the spacebar and several keys bent. I have gotten the keys righted, but I have a few keys that do not want to return fully. However, the machine works okay for the most part. I hope to get it fully functional. http://typewriterdatabase.com/1928-adler-25.9467.typewriter

Got some mineral spirits today and I think that has done the trick. Not sure which variety this is, but it's clear and has hardly any scent.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Well, I collected the Blue Bird (eventually - what a hassle...).

It's all looking rather good - I've only done some basic testing, although I haven't identified any problems thus far. You'll have to make do with these crappy 'phone pics for now - I've only just got back & I'm knackered!

Oh, and it didn't have a dead cat inside, either - but it certainly smells as if it did at some point!

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Thanks, Gnu - yes, it is, isn't it? My elderly Samsung 'phone & artificial light completely fail to do it justice.

However, it currently smells of dead people & has been banished to the spare / junk room until I can bleach scrub the case, rub down with lemon oil & apply some form of mildew treatment to the felt.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Today's arrival - hurried photo - only just delivered & I'm rushing to get back out.

What I assume to be a very late 1961 (from the serial, at least - 581345) Rhinemetall KsT:
