Don't forget there's the SG Owners Club thread to put them in.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

I've been searching for the SG-1 for nearly a year and every chance I have to get it, it some how doesn't work out...

But congrats on the find!

(I will be a part of the SG Owners Club one day...)

A high schooler with a lot of typewriters. That's pretty much about it.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Iwill post to that thread once I get the two of them together - but for now, I've just given this SG1 a good clean - thus throwing the rest of my day out - and the blue-&-red ribbons have arrived, so I will just put this picture up here and go get on with all the work I have to do.

It really is a splendid thing. When I took the carriage off I just felt a sort of awe for the inner workings of it. So much  more beautiful than it had to be, qwith its red and its yellow cast-iron parts. It's a little like owning a steam engine. And look at it now! So much happier than yesterday.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

An absolute bargain!  I think I will never part with my SG1s, or at least they will be the last to go.
Have you discovered the d o u b l e - s p a c e  p r i n t i n g yet?  Great for headings.
Be careful with this beast - probably responsible for more slipped discs and bad backs than any other typewriter!

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Hi All--newbie here!  i bought my first typewriter last year, a 1950's Remington Quiet Riter. after that, i was hooked on manual typewriters.  the next addition came this year in the form of a Hermes 3000 (rounded style).  after that,  another Hermes 3000 with the techno typeface, then an Olympia SM3 and SM4 (in script), a Hermes Rocket (in script), and currently in the mail, a Olympia SM7 (in script).  oh, i forgot the Olivetti 35 somebody gave me too.

my dream typewriter would be a Smith Corona Silent Super with the upright cursive typeface.  if anyone has one they are willing to sell, please let me know!

just wanted to say i'm glad i came accross this board.  i look forward to catching up on all the topics. makes for some great late night reading.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Welcome to the forum Typewriterlv! Can't say that I share your enthusiasm for cursive typefaces, but every collection should certainly have at least one. I'm trying to think of what the "upright" cursive typeface is that you're after; it isn't this typeface that is fitted to a 6-series Smith-Corona that I own by any chance?

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

hi Uwe--i totally get where you are coming from about the cursive.  it's an acquired taste. LOL.    i love them because of the ultra personal feel they give to the little notes and cards i type up. if anyone ever had a typewriter Unicorn, this is mine.  here is the typeface:

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

I understand now. I have that exact typeface in a 1930 Underwood:

Not to rub it in, but there are three of them for sale right now in my area, just on Kijiji alone. I'm actually just discussing it with Valiant (he's looking at an Underwood that's being sold alongside one of the SG1s) and doing my best to resist the temptaion of buying yet another one of these fabulous standards.

You lucky duck.  I'll have to keep in mind it appears in that machine too.  Thanks!
