Hermes 3000 (early round model) carriage return problem

Hi Everyone, first time posting, but have read a lot before joining.  I have a new-to-me Hermes 3000, early model with the rounded body.  The carriage return stutters when I return it at very low speed, but is fine when I return it at high speed.  By stutter I mean it makes a grating noise with corresponding vibrations that can be felt through the carriage return arm.  Any ideas on what I can do to eliminate this?  Thank you in advance!

The silent return spring on the escapement may just need a drop of sewing machine oil if you are lucky.  I think you should be able to access this by drawing the carriage over to one side.  Try not to take the carriage off if you can help it.  They can be quite difficult to line everything up to get back on.
