(NLR) I have a 1950 Consul 1511.
Does anyone know how to get the single-piece body panel off ?
I have removed the four (4) screws along the top that hold the body panel to the chassis. But moving the carriage from one end to the other, I am still not able to lift the body panel off...as it is held up by the carriage.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Do I need to take the carriage off, first ?
If so, how do you remove the carriage ?

Got a tip from another Consul owner.
Under main-spring tension, remove the right end of the draw-band from the underside of the carriage and secure the hook/loop fitting of the draw-band to a place on the frame just under the carriage.
Then on the left side, remove a small set-screw at the end of 1 of 2 carriage rails. Once the screw is removed, you can move the carriage (now with no main-spring tension) completely to the left and off the lower rails. A pair of bearing "trollies" will come off too with the carriage.
Re-installing is the reverse of the above.

That was a difficult one for sure. Disconnecting the drawband is not the first thing I think of when I want to remove the body. Thanks for posting.

If they had made the back-panel a separate piece, removing the body covering for cleaning and inspection would have been so much easier.

Here is a YouTube video by Gerren on how to remove the carriage so the body cowling can then come off :
