They were 50th Anniversary models that Royal produced. I don't know how many were made, but apparently Ian Fleming, the author of the original James Bond books, owned one. There must be a fair number of them in circulation because they do seem to come up for auction fairly regularly, but most of the ones that I've seen have fairly worn and scratched up plating, so I'd be cautious of one that looks factory fresh and was being advertised to be in original condition.

Not ebay, but etsy. Over 500 dollars for a horribly painted remington 2 portable typewriter. It either had rust before it was painted, and the guy painted over it, or just has drip marks.

Dedication, they even painted the ribbon spools.
In the theme of badly painted, here's one I saw at the antique mall this weekend. Price tag was more reasonable than the orange one at $50.

If that Remington works, I'd go for it. And then blind myself to prevent any further regret of the appearance...

I was too disgusted to even clean the 'decorations' out of it and see if the typebars moved. It looked pretty rusted underneath the paint.

Hey, give them some credit! At least they kept the "Remington" decal!

That Remington is not a bad paint job. It is a thing of nightmare.
But I really visited this topic to post...

There is nothing really funny about it - except the price.

That is very funny. It could be an alternate version of Oedipus Rex, where the tragic protagonist blinds himself to prevent seeing a typewriter, ironically forgetting that this would prevent him from seeing any other typescript, ever. Silly tragic protagonist.
You might consider preserving it in Cosmoline until science could find a cure.
