Have this nice case coming in from SGW. For a Royal Futura 800.
I have cases with both of my machines, already, but this case seems to be a bit unusual.
For a bit over $ 25...I get this case :

But for that price, I also get a decent "parts machine" to help keep my other 2 machines going strong for the next 50-60 years.

That IS an unusual case, at least not one that I recall having seen before. If it wasn't for the stitching I might have suggested it was recovered. Manufacturers did offer optional cases for some models, but I guess that few people wanted to spend extra for something that mostly sat in a closet.

Hi Uwe,
I am there with you as well. Do not recall seeing such a "tweed" fabric case for the Futura line.
I jumped for joy to not only see a black plastic handle, but one that is still intact.

Speaking of handles, my routine when it comes to original travel cases is that I never carry them by their handle.
Two instances drilled that practice into me:
1. A fellow collector in my area was carrying a typewriter he had just purchased when its handle suddenly broke apart and the case tumble to the ground.
2. A typewriter I was carrying from my car to the house had a latch failure (it WAS properly closed) and the machine ejected itself and landed upside down on the sidewalk firing off bits of plastic like shrapnel.
The result is that I don't trust 50+ year-old original hardware on travel cases, and I always carry the case with both hands, parallel to the ground. There are exceptions, like light ultra-portables in leather cases that have dual straps, but with hard cases like the one you found I expect the unexpected.

Uwe, thank you for the lesson story of an old case. When carrying one recently I didn't trust the little ears on the latch so I held it closed while at the same time trusting the 60 year old thin metal strap of a handle would still be secure. I'm guessing you were devastated to learn that hard lesson and I will hope not to repeat it.

Absolutely. I do not even move or pick up a case/machine on my display shelves by the handle. I use two hands and try to get under the case before lifting them up.
Carrying by the handle, I would also worry that a hinge would fail and cause the machine to spill out.
Or on the leatherette cases...to have the back side of the zipper to fail.

Pete, like so many things in life the tendency is to be trusting until proved wrong. Now that the seed has been planted for me I'd like to think "lesson learned" at a discount price.

Here is an identical case with a Royal on eBay...but not with a Futura machine but a Heritage machine :

How do you like the 800 Pete? Since a certain website is in crazy mode I am limited to local purchases and the only remotely interesting thing I can find is an 800. I foolishly didn't bring one of mine with me when I moved cross country for the next 9 or more months.
