The Adler Special was a model in its own right - an 'industrial portable'. Designed to be carried from room to room in an office, it had a carriage lock but no carry case and was about the same footprint as a standard - but lower and 'squatter'. It wasn't a roaring success, although Adler persisted with it for years - probably in an attempt to recover the money spent on development and tooling !

My AMC (Alpina) reminds me of what you mention about the Adler Special. It feels like a standard on my desk (just a bit smaller and not as tall). But it did come with a case.
