Colt 1911s and Lugars? Not familiar with those. ‘50’s? Standards? Portables??

He means Lugers.
These are highly respected firearms, semi-automatic pistols from early- and mid-20th century, the Colt being American and the Luger, German. I agree with you, it's a pretty obscure comparison as few of us have handled either one, let alone both.

Lazydog,

Can you make me smarter about the Lettera 32 versus the Lettera 22 ?

Re: What Are You Typing On Today...?

Not yet -- I don't have the 22! I am sure others here can enlighten more -- the 22 came out first, 1950 I think...the 32 in 1963 I believe.

Re: What Are You Typing On Today...?

Lazydog,

Maybe the same machines but with a differing "name".  Similar to Hermes Rocket and Hermes Baby...(???).

Looking at User Manuals on Richard Polt's web site, I do not see any functional differences between the two machines.

From the TWDB, I can see the following :

Lettera 22 made from 1950 to 1964.  Initially made in Italy and then in 1961 to 1984, made in Spain.

Lettera 32 made from 1964 to 1977.  Made in Italy and in Spain concurrently with each other from the start of the 32 production.

There appears to be no overlap in serial numbers between the 22 and the 32 in 1964.

Typo in section above :

"  Lettera 22 made from 1950 to 1964.  Initially made in Italy and then in 1961 to 1964, made in Spain.  "

If you have not yet seen it, Robert Messenger's blog is one of the most delightful and informative sources of typewriter info I have found, and this article on the history of the Lettera 22 does not disappoint!

No, no, the Lettera 22 and the Lettera 32 are very different typewriters.

The spools and the spool nuts are the same and the rubber housing grommets are interchangeable. But that's it. For example, they have completely different carriage rail mechanisms.

And the typing experience is also very different.

regarding: "And the typing experience is also very different."

Would you say both are responsive to a light touch as Pete described the 32? I want to have one some day and wondering if one might be preferable.

Re: What Are You Typing On Today...?

AndrewP,

Would you say the 22 is better or not so good as the 32 ?
