A couple of days ago I acquired this wide-carriage 3rd generation Hermes 3000, probably manufactured in November or December of 1970 according to the Typewriter Database. Not sure if this is made in France or not, as the sticker at the back only has the Hermes logo and the text "A Paillard product" on it. I've understood that these have a bad rep, but I quite like the way it both types and looks.
The only real problems it seemed to have was that the right side carriage button is broken and sticking out (can be pushed back in, but it doesn't move the carriage), and the fact that the carrying case is missing. It did come with an official Hermes branded dust cover though, seemingly made for this wide-carriage version.
While it was typing very nicely the moment I first tested it, I noticed it was a bit dirty both outside and inside, so I took off the bottom in order to blow out the dust and did some minor cleaning with mineral spirits and cotton swabs.
Everything seemed to be fine when I put it back together, but something I did seems to have introduced a new problem, which I also have at times with my recently acquired Erika Daro 41:
When I type, the ribbon doesn't go back down to it's slot properly, but gets stuck instead, and I have to straighten it out and put in back in manually. This is especially bad using the lower red part of the ribbon, as it lifts the whole ribbon out of the thin "slot" (excuse my lack of proper nomenclature). I'm not sure what is causing this problem with the ribbon (or perhaps the type bar guide?) or what did I do to make it a problem all of a sudden. Othen than removing the metallic Pelikan branded ribbon spools and doing some light cleaning around the area, I did remove and clean the clear plastic card guide, as well but I'm not sure how that could affect it.
I have a feeling this is a total newbie problem, but any help would be appreciated, so I can actually get to do some work with this wonderful machine.

Just wanted to add that I tried removing the ribbon to check if the problem is elsewhere in the mechanism, but no, the typing action itself works perfectly. I guess there is something wrong I'm doing with the spools?
As a side note, I was surprised to see that the spool ratchet mechanism on this is still fully made of metal, as at least on the later Hungarian made 3rd gen ones they are part plastic.

JJH,
This is an enlarged view of the ribbon through the guides/vibrator from the user-manual :

JJH,
Mr. Jacques Perrier in Switzerland is one of largest parts-suppliers for Hermes and even Olympia typewriters.
He sells and ships parts around the world. Usually he will want to see a photo or two of the machine or part you are needing.
I have been a customer several times. He ships quickly and the part are always perfect.
He also runs a Typewriter Museum.
His contact email is : musee@machineaecrire.ch
And a link about his Museum :

Ha, I knew it was a newbie problem! I checked my Erika 41 as well, and I had made the exact same mistake there as well, although it was still working most of the time. Thank you kindly for the simple fix!
Also thank you for the tip about Mr. Perrier. I will be in contact with him later to see if he has what I need.

Ah yes, I saw your topic; looking forward to hearing about your experience with it.
Judging from that photo the wide-carriage versions must have come with a slightly differently designed carrying case, as it looks like it would not fit the wide-carriage one. I wondered if the wide-carriage ones even came with a carrying case in the first place, but apparently they did. Would be nice to find a photo of one though.

JJH,
As you reach out to Jacques Perrier, you might ask him about a case.
My Hermes 10 (electric) came with a "Platt Industries" case. From end of platen knob to end of platen knob, my Hermes 10 is exactly 17" in total width.
I have seen other photos of such a case that even have a "Hermes" name-plate on the front above the handle.
Here is my Hermes 10 case.
It even has some metal rails/hardware that are coated with black plastic to keep the typewriter from moving around in the case and factory foam inside the top-lid to press down on the type of the machine a bit.

JJH,
If your platen/carriage is also 17" in total width, it might be your machine and my Hermes 10 shared the same carriage design with the loss of the manual CR lever in place of a power-return draw band intenal to the carriage.
They certainly have identical platen knobs.

JJH,
Here is another type case with a Hermes 10...that might fix your wide-carriage H-3000 as well. Scroll down the page a bit to see the case photos :
