    How do you measure typing speed?

    I just heard that there was such a thing as typing speed contests. That got me wondering how do you measure typing speed?  Is there an accepted paragraph?  Is it measured on what ever the typist wants to type or is the typist given a set paragraph to type? Do they type for just one minute or many minutes and then average the speed per minute?

    So many questions and thanks for any answers

    I've seen all kinds of speed measurement methods, most require a sustained period of typing, and some of them for a very long time. Since accuracy is very important, your speed is adjusted for the amount of errors found in your typed copy.   

    The pronoun I has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.
