It will price higher then anything I can afford today, but for anyone interested, there is a QDL Gold on eBay at:

The auction is already gone - at least the link you posted is dead. I assume it was one of the gold-plated Quiet De Luxe models you see from time to time? They were a special model produced by Royal to help celebrate the company's 50th anniversary.

How odd... I went right to it on my eBay accunt, and the item number looks accurate.

Well, here's one.
It's in pretty rough shape, and the gold plating has rubbed off in many areas, but I'm following the auction now just out of curiousity to see how much someone is willing to spend on this particular model. It would be fun to own a 50th Anniversary model, but not so important - for me - to spend much money on one.

Even with the aging to the gold plating, it's quite alluring, like a silver-backed mirror with age spots. But I do wonder why so many sellers can't be bothered to just get a ribbon and test it out.

It's a fair question. I have asked sellers if they have a type sample. It is how I found a typewriter that types in Royal Vogue. It is interesting to be told by some, "Sure, let me post it." Why would you not post it to begin with? And, of course, I get the others that say, "No." I feel as if I asked some taboo question and I just insulted them. I tend not to want to work with people like those!

Most sellers are just flipping a machine that they've found or got on the cheap, and probably don't know how to load a ribbon let alone find one. Other than that, you don't need a type sample, just a half-decent photo of the slugs, to identify the typeface the machine has. I'm sure more sellers would be willing to comply to such a request.
