Re: Keychopper Alerts!

That's just brutal. I'd happily use that machine without its ribbon cover, and who knows, maybe one day a cover might turn up on a machine that it terrible condition.

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

I really, really can't stand it when perfectly good machines are turned into jewlery. It makes me so mad!

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

Oh my! This guy has to be stopped in his tracks! That is a beautiful machine to throw by the wayside. I don't udnerstand why sellers would even list them this way. I really hope that this isn't a trend that grows. I would love to start a small save the typewriters campaign!

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

I wish we could contact the keychoppers directly.  M***9 has outbid me on several machines I've tried to save, but they have deeper pockets than me apparently.

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

Make the keychoppers pay big money for them.
When it no longer profitable, they will stop butchering machines just for the keytops.

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

After coming into a nice wad of cash (good riddance, Oliver!) I decided to actually do something about one of the poor machines listed on eBay for keys. Here is what I managed to save: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121471236165?_trksid=p2059210.m2748.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
It's nothing special and I paid more than I should, but it is one more machine that will run for decades more. It will not leave my collection without a fight!

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

What is it, a QDL? It looks, from the keyboard at least, to be in good condition. Nice job, and be sure to post some pictures of the rescue when it arrives!

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

I'm assuming it's a QDL or an Arrow, but the seller didn't say.

Re: Keychopper Alerts!

It makes me feel a little bit queasy, to see these listings, but being in the UK the shipping makes it way too expensive for me to consider bidding.
I haven't seen a listing using the dreaded phrases on ebay uk for a while. I wonder if the keychopping is a thing going on predominantly on the other side of the Atlantic? Or is it that Brits are keeping quiet about their ugly crafting activities?!
