Well as the title suggests, is this possible? Or will it require a lot of work?
I have seen some typewriters up for sale and they are clearly German typewriters that have their keys reversed (the shift key still reads german, so can tell that they were originally QWERTZ).
Cheers

Swapping the keys/key legends is fairly easy. Swapping the slugs is more work as you would need to solder them; not a big deal if you're familiar with soldering, but if not, it might present a small challenge. On the other hand you could just leave it; I have a large number of QWERTZ machines and it only takes a few minutes of use before I remember that the Y is where the Z is normally found.

Please don't! Seems a shame.
Qwertz machines usually come with the necessary charachters for German and French - and you may find that writing names and words borrowed from these laguages cannot be done successfuly without them.
I have several such machines, and buy them in preference to qwerty keyboards.
