Royal Quiet Deluxe portable, 1947
I just picked one up, in very good shape, including a nice manual and even the original tag in the case.
I'm playing with it today, and I can not figure out how to set the right margin. The manual explains how to set the left margin, and that's easy. For the right margin it says;
"For the convenience of those who desire a right margin, one is provided under the Paper Table (10)."
I can't for the life of me figure out what this means. I've turned it over and poked around, and I can't find anything that looks like it would set the right margin! What am I missing?

OH! Never mind. I found it. I didn't realize the paper table thing FLIPS up to reveal the right margin setter. Doh. I looked and looked, figures I'd post and then immediately find it.

That it only has a left-side Magic Margin is a little strange, but that's the way it was. A modest cost-savings for production, and I suppose the reasoning was that the left margin is the one that is most often used. (moved). Still a very nice machine, and I'm sure you're going to love it.

Man, I already love it. So sweet! It's my first manual with 12 character per inch typeface. It is going to need a little more cleaning than I originally thought when I was all googly eyed for it at the antique mall, but really it's in pretty solid. That right margin really perplexed me though, lol. I Only finally figured it out because in turning it over my hand accidentally wiggled the paper table thing, and thought I'd broken something.

I think the keys are a cool shape on that vintage. My Royal's are the generation after that one. It's great to have the retail tag in there!

The tag lists the shape of the keys as one of its "features". I need to scan the tag in and post it.

I've never seen one of those hang tags before; very cool! And you have to love the advertorial content: "Dramatic beauty - Its thrilling modern design adds grace to any room!" Well? Did it add grace to your room?

That's so funny, I was going to add that it definitely added grace to my craft room. Lol. We are getting ready to paint the entire downstairs, so everything is a disaster. But since I plopped the Typerwriter down on my desk I'm thinking we don't even need to paint anymore. It's just that graceful. We are going to redo the craft room in ikea, and I'm sure it will add grace to the boxy Swedish designs as well.

Inspired by your basement tale, I decided to see if my Quiet De Luxe would have a similar effect on the dumpy dining room in our house and was shocked by the result. Unfortunately, I'll have to keep the machine in there now...
