Re: Your Ebay watch list

I'd have been happy to snag that one, it was very pretty! Pity it was in the US. Maybe it will turn up on the database

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Yes, if I didn't have the rheinmetall repair payment upcoming, and possibly having to pay for repairs on the Hermes, I'd have gotten it myself.  It was pretty, even with a little rust.  It was so tempting to snag it, just to see if the rust spots could be buffed out

Based on bid history, the buyer was a collector, so maybe it will turn up in the typosphere!

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Saw that one, but two tone not for me.  Can't beat it for a dollar though!

What's the deal with this one?

"Olympia SM3 De Luxe Typewriter with Case C. 1959 M3687"

21 people are watching it, but why?

What's M3687?  It has a special typeface or something?

To a novice doesn't seem like anything special about it.  So what can I learn here?  : )

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Hmm. I don't know either. Sometimes I think people just watch things that seem overpriced to see if they sell. But maybe there is something special about it.

That's what I was thinking: people are watching to see "what the market will bear".

Inventory control numbers. Look at that seller's other items and you'll see that they all have such numbers.

As for why it's being watched, there could be dozens of reasons, but I doubt any of them have to do with there being anything special about this overpriced SM3.

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Cool.  Even if made me look at bit silly about the M3687 as some sort of model #  thing. ; )

Noticed no takers on this one.  291519018080

Vintage Deluxe Olympic Seafoam Green Portable Typewriter Made in Germany w/case

Opening bid: $99.00

Got scared off by the price & closely looking at one of photos.

Maybe one that got away, but already have one machine "lost in the mail" so a little gun-shy.

A pricey one, but gosh, that dealer sticker would really bug me!

I can't recall having ever seen a typewriter with the evidence of three different repair shops on it. A sticker on the side and back, and a a business card taped inside of the case. Either this was a well maintained machine or one that caused its owner a lot of grief.

These gold-plated Royals seem to come up for auction fairly regularly, and I can understand paying a small premium for one, but for $1000+ USD I'd expect at the very least to get an example with flawless plating, which on that one is completely missing in some spots and scratched up in others.
