Re: Accidental typewriter desk from Ikea?

New-ish member here.  Regarding memories of offices past, I'll share one of mine:  I've been a medical transcriptionist for 51 years, and while that noble profession has essentially gone the way of blacksmithing, I remember well offices with anywhere between 10 to 20 stenographers busily pounding away, headsets (usually metal tubes) hung in ears to catch the physician dictation being transcribed.  Only in the very beginning were manual typewriters used (although I remember them used as well), but one office I worked in for several years was equipped with IBM Selectrics of various iterations.  I'm remembering in my mind's-ear the din, and a din it was.  Sort of like a hive of metallic insects in a congress of furious speed.  I can imagine how it would have sounded had those Selectrics been something on the order of, say a Royal model 10 or an Underwood 5!

The typewriter gives me things I don't even know I'm working on.  ~ Charles Bukowski
