Scored a very nice ~1962 Brother Valiant (JP-1) from Shop Goodwill for a bid of only $ 7.99.  All-in...around $ 32 with S&H.

This is an early one that still has the wire-loop paper support,  Case to be in nice condition, as well.

Should have it home in a week or so.

Cool. Looking forward to your report.

The Wizard TrueType is one of the few remaing typewriters I'm still hunting for - mostly for the name (I work on TrueType fonts in my day job). I believe it's this very model of Brother, rebadged. Hard to find them without the name plate cracked on the sides where the screws hold it in.

Rob,

I sure like the simplicity of the wire-loop paper support and how it hinges in the slots of the back panel metal.

Not sure if I will keep it or move it on.  Depends if I take a liking to typing on it.

Brothers type so nicely and this one looks like it's in good condition.  I hope it's as good as it looks!

Pet peeve: when sellers take pictures with all the keys jammed together.

Omineca,

I am hoping I am drawn to its typing-feel after I give it a full spa-day in my garage.

I do have a Brother Deluxe 1613 made in 1981 or so.  It is a very competent typer so I am hoping this JP-1 from 1961 is even better.

p.s.  My Deluxe 1613 was professionally painted by or for a previous owner.  The colour scheme is what drew meto buying it in the first place.

I like the paint job.

I have a Brother Activator 850 TR.  It types quite nicely, but a few of the individual typebars need alignment (too high, too low, slightly rotated).  I suppose a day with a few pairs of pliers could get it all straightened out.

I'd like to think these fellows would like my Deluxe 1613 as well...

Very nice and a great deal. I have this Brother and Wizard version that I've resisted parting with because I like the design. Great for trips when you want something you can leave in the car don't want to be weighed down.

Hi Mike,

That is really a lovely pair.  Congratulations !

Weight wise (w/out case), the Brother Valiant comes in at 9.2 Lbs.

That is in-between my Triumph Tippa at 8.9 Lbs. and my Olivetti Lettera 32 at 9.4 Lbs.

Spa day in my garage completed today.

Machine came with metal ribbon spools and I have a new silk ribbon coming in.

Surprise in the case, was an original User-Manual.

I will scan it and get it over to Richard Polt so he can add it to this Manuals web page.  I will let Members, here, now when Richard has done that.
