I found a repair / restore typewriter to take apart, a Smith Corona Silent. It doesn't look very pretty, sticky keys, and there is lots of dust and grime. I am hoping at least the insides are salvageable.

Sounds like a challenge. I would recommend taking it apart, clean and reassemble. You just may find that you have a recoverable machine. I've have couple of Smith Corona's that were in pretty rough shape and recovered nicely. A great way to learn!

Thanks...I will post before and after pictures. Hopefully the after photo will look better than the before!
