How to clean an IBM brush

I have an IBM brush for Sel. It is very dirty. Do you think it's a bad idea to put it in the dishwasher (low temperature). Same with golfballs. Crazy idea?

Ive always had good luck with gasoline.  

Learned watchmaker and office machine enthusiast from Germany.
